Oto Melara, a Finmeccanica company, signed a contract worth around 20 million euro with Italy’s Ministry of Defence - General Directorate of Terrestrial Armaments to supply 81 HITROLE Light turrets. The HITROLE turrets will be used to equip a number of the Lince vehicles currently employed in Afghanistan, thus increasing operational effectiveness and diminishing risks to personnel. The contract also includes technical assistance. Oto Melara was selected by Italy’s Ministry of Defence following an international tender that began in July this year. The SCAR™ Assault Rifle: Fully tested and approved by Special Forces Operators
FN Herstal, a world leader in small arms manufacture, will exhibit two innovative additions to its product line at IDEX 2009, Abu Dhabi, from 22 through 26 February 2009 (Hall 10, Booth no. D36 in the Belgian Pavilion). The full line of SCAR rifles includes a 5.56x45mm NATO rifle called SCAR-L ("Light"), the 7.62x51mm NATO SCAR-H ("Heavy") and an enhanced grenade launcher module called the FN40GL. Because of its unique, modular design, the SCAR rifle barrels (CQC or standard length) are easily and quickly interchangeable by the individual operator in just minutes allowing for rapid reconfiguration of the rifle for a variety of operational roles. The SCAR rifle is completely ambidextrous with a fully free-floating barrel for exceptional accuracy. It features multiple integral Picatinny type mounting rails and a telescopic, folding buttstock with adjustable cheekpiece.

FN Herstal announced today that on 22 December 2008, the FN Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) was down-FN Herstal announced today that on 22 December 2008, the FN Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) was down-selected as one of four competitive products for procurement by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) following a full and open competition. Each awardee will now produce and deliver test samples for evaluation by the Marine Corps. This is the first phase of a five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for the production, delivery, and associated support of the Marine Corps' Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). The IAR is planned to replace a limited number of lightweight machine guns currently used in the automatic riflemen role within Infantry and Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalions.
