The
BMP-T, is a Tank Support Combat Vehicle, designed
to provide support for armored formations, by engaging
anti-tank teams, demolishing obstacles, engaging
fortified targets in bunkers, buildings or under
cover. The BMPT was developed to the T-72 chassis.
This vehicle is sometimes nicknamed the "Terminator".
It was delivered to the Russian army, beginning
in 2005.
The
main armament of the BMP-T is composed by
weapon station, which is mounted externally
and above and in the middle are two 30 mm

The
first prototype of the BMPT is based on
the chassis of the well-known T-72 MBT which
is used in large numbers by the Russian
Army and has been manufactured under licence
by many countries. The protection of the
BMPT is superior to most MBTs, as active
and passive protection is used, and additional
armor (the vehicle lacks a turret), is distributed
to the hull of the vehicle. The BMP-T BMPT
is fitted with additional explosive reactive
armour, on the front and sides.
Propulsion
The
power pack, mounted at the rear, consists
of a B92C2 four-stroke multifuel diesel
with liquid cooling and supercharging, develops
1,000 hp and gives the vehicle a power-to-weight
ratio of 21.2 hp/tonne. The BMP-T use the
same chassis as the main battle tank T-72,
the torsion bar suspension each side consists
of six roadwheels with the idler at the
front, drive sprocket at the rear and three
return rollers supporting the inside of
the track only.
Accessories
Standard
equipment includes NBC system, 5 kW diesel
generator, which is mounted in an armoured
compartment on the right side of the hull
and an automatic two-shot fire detection
and suppression system. The BMPT is also
equipped with a laser detection system.
