is equipped with new Russian air defense missile system Pechora-2M.
A
video posted on youtube, Monday, July 9, 2012, shows that the Syrian army
is equipped with the new Russian-made air defence missile system Pechora-2M.
Some sources of information on Internet report that in 2011, Russia would
have made modernization of Syrian air defense missile system S-125
Pechora (SA-3 Goa) to Pechora-2M level.
A screen shot
of the video shows a Russian-made air defence missile system Pechora-2M
ready to fire during military exercises in Syria.
Algeria
and Syria are particularly important customers for Russia, while there
are smaller contracts with Yemen, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.
The images of this video confirms that the Syrian army is equipped with
modern Russian-made air defense missile systems as the Pechora-2M,
the BUK-M2
and Pantsyr-S1.
All these weapons could be a very serious threat in case of a no-fly zone
action from a country or an international organization that would help
the Syrian civilian population as to Libya. Indeed, Libya was only equipped
with old Russian-made air defence system.
Russian and Belarus developed the Pechora
2M a modernized upgrade of the old S-125
Pechora (SA-3 Goa) using a new wheeled launcher unit. The
system is designed to deploy and stow in 25 minutes. The upgraded 5V27D
and 5V27DE missiles od Pechora-2M feature new fuses and warheads, and
the electronics have been comprehensively upgraded with digital hardware,
an electro-optical tracker has been added.

Many
of the rebels’ advocates here are urging the creation of one or
more “no-fly zones” over Syrian territory to protect the
opposition and permit it to set up a rival government on Syrian territory
that could then request additional military intervention ....
