The choice to employ these shotguns follows a growing trend among global military forces to adopt effective short-range anti-drone weapons. The Hatsan Escort BTS 12, known for its semi-automatic action, offers a practical solution against low-altitude drones, which are increasingly used for surveillance and direct engagement in conflict zones.
The 68th Jaeger brigade's training sessions have focused on maximizing the effectiveness of these shotguns in an anti-drone role. This includes targeting exercises that simulate engagements with aerial drones, aiming to enhance the accuracy and response times of the operators.
This initiative reflects global military adjustments to the drone threat, similar to the U.S. Air Force's trials of specialized SkyNet Mi-5 anti-drone shotgun shells, which deploy a net to capture drones mid-flight, neutralizing them without causing extensive damage.
The Hatsan Escort BTS12 is a 12-gauge, gas-operated, magazine-fed semi-automatic shotgun. It features a 76 mm (3-inch) chamber and is available with magazines that have a capacity of 2, 5, or 10 cartridges. The shotgun is equipped with a chrome-plated and drilled barrel that is oxidation-resistant and proof-tested. Its bullpup design includes an integrated pistol grip and an adjustable comb for improved shooting comfort and precision.
Additionally, the BTS12 is equipped with a tactical bullpup stock with a soft rubber recoil pad to absorb shock. It has a detachable carry handle with built-in adjustable rear and front sights. Flip-up sights are also included as an optional accessory. The shotgun also features a muzzle cover that protects the barrel and locks the fore-end in place, as well as Picatinny rails on the receiver and forend sides for accessory attachment.
With its durable matte black finish and compact design, the BTS12 is built to perform in various operational environments. It also comes in a custom-designed hard case for enhanced portability and protection of the firearm. Features like the reversible cocking handle make the shotgun accessible for both left and right-handed shooters.
As drone technology evolves, so does the arsenal of countermeasures, highlighting the dynamic nature of modern military strategy and the critical need for continuous adaptation and training.
