During SOFINS 2015 (Special Operations Forces Innovation Network Seminar, April 14-16), created by Special Forces Command and placed under the High Patronage of the French Minister of Defence, Nexter Robotics, a subsidiary of the French Company Nexter Group, presented its wide range of missions kits, particularly the exploration, obseration and detection kits, designed to be installed on NERVA-LG or NERVA-HD Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV).

During SOFINS 2015, Nexter Robotics presented a wide range of "missions kits" for NERVA UGV

All the "missions kits" system is based upon a « 1-click » field exchange concept (no tool required) and a Plug & Play automatic system reconfiguration.

This "Exploration kit" is fully compatible with NERVA-LG and NERVA-HD robotic systems. It provides the robot with the capability to perform fully autonomous exploration and mapping: When operating in a fully unknown area, the platform moves by itself wherever it can go and simultaneously acquires the map of its local environment, using a laser technology. The map is displayed in real time and recorded on the control station.

When the robot is equipped with additional detectors (CBRN sensor, CO2,…), the map can be enhanced with the associated output measurements (for example using dedicated colours to indicate a contamination level); this capability also makes it possible to detect victims (CO2 level) or to monitor an industrial plant (heat measurement, leak of toxic gaz,…).

Nexter Robotics also presented several "observation and detection kits". Those “missions kits” extend the reconnaissance and observation native capabilities of Nerva. Beyond compatible interfaces at platform level, all kits can be monitored using any NERVA remote control station. This equipment further improves operational efficiency of NERVA robots for Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Rescue missions.

Nexter Robotics especially showcased the infrared thermal camera (8-12µ infrared band, résolution: 640x480 pixels), the pan-tilt observation turret (High sensitivity day camera, tilt: -30° / +90°, pan: 360°, rotation speed: 50°/s, optical zoom: x36), the CBRN sensors (via a hand-operated detector adapted on a NERVA UGV), a manual and the detection and localisation of gun shots (via a METRAVIB PEARL system: Detection of small arms shots [5,56mm to 20mm] with a detection range of 1 km).

Other special purpose kits are also available: some lighting, pointing and designation, bidirectionnal audio intercom, additional external battery (Up to 3h mission duration with standard profile [30% mobility + 70% static observation] and up to 8h for static observation), radio relay for Control Station or for extending field range, transport capacity. This equipment further improves operational efficiency of NERVA robots in the full range of missions they can address (Reconnaissance, Counter-IED, law enforcement, policing, Civil Security, …).

Several types of grenade launchers (40mm or 56mm) can be mounted on NERVA. Those launchers allow a remote secured firing. Different grenades can be used: tear gas, flashing grenade or/and sound grenade. This equipment further improves operational efficiency of NERVA robots for Counter-IED, law enforcement, policing and any security task.

A wide range of missions can be accomplished by NERVA robots used in different configurations with those different "missions kits".
