"Russia`s military is planning to get an organic RCWS armed with a machinegun or an automatic grenade launcher (AGL). In order to enhance the combat capabilities of the newest armoured vehicles, Russia`s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has ordered a large batch of 6S21 unmanned weapon stations developed by TsNII Burevestnik. 6S21 is supposed to become the organic RCWS of the armed forces in the near future. Russia`s newest armour, namely Kurangets-25 and Bumerang armoured personnel carriers (APC), Kurganets-25 armoured recovery vehicle (ARV), and the BT-3F marinized APC have already received . Burevestnik is also developing a modification of 6S21 intended for the surface combatants of the Russian Navy," a source said at the Army 2016 defense show outside Moscow.

He added that Burevestnik is manufacturing three variants of 6S21, namely 6S21-01, 6S21-02, and 6S21-03. "The 6S21-01 RCWS is armed with a 12.7 mm 6P49 Kord heavy machinegun, while 6S21-02 and 6S21-03 with a 7.62 mm Kalashnikov PKTM machinegun. 6S21-01 has an ammunition load of 200 12.7 mm cartridges, 6S21-02 and 6S21-03 of 500 and 320 7.62 mm cartridges, respectively. At the same time, 6S21-01 lacks a thermal imager that is installed on 6S21-02 and 6S21-03 unmanned stations," the source stressed.

Russia`s MoD seems to have ordered 6S21-01 modules armed with 6P49 Kord machineguns, as this variant of the RCWS up-armoured with additional armour plates is installed on the Kurganets-25 and Bumerang APCs, as well on the Kurganets-25 ARV. 6S21 lacks a main weapon stabilizer in basic configuration that can be integrated with the station in accordance with the desire of potential customers.
