The SORA is armed with one 122mm howitzer D-30J mounted on the rear on a modified 6x6 truck chassis FAP 2026 BS/AV. The first prototype of the vehicle was showed for the first time to the public during the Partner defense exhibition in 2013.

The upper part of the gun is fitted with an autoloader with six projectiles and charges located in two drums on both sides of the gun. Projectiles in the right drum, the charges on the left. Rate of fire in this configuration is 6 rds/min. Thanks to the high level of automatization, SORA is able to operate with only two crew members.

When travelling, the cannon is held in position by a clamp, at the elevation of +2°. Main sector of firing is opposite to the driving direction. It is possible to fire at elevations from -7° to +70°. Traverse is 25° left and right.

In firing position, two trails and one firing platform are lowered to the ground to stabilize the vehicle. System is fully automated, with crew members located in the truck cabin during firing mission.

The SORA can fire new 122mm extended range artillery projectiles. The shells are designed for general fire support missions against enemy troops, light fortifications and unarmoured and lightly armoured vehicles.

As a result of complete aerodynamical optimization (new shape and installment of base bleed unit) and newly designed powder charge maximum range is increased from 15,300 m to over 21,500 m.
