Turkey could be interested to purchase Russian S-500 missile system


According to the PanArmenian website, Turkey has recently announced the purchase of Russian-made which S-400 ( (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) surface-to-air defense missile systems, Turkey is also interested to acquire the next generation f Russian missile system S-500 that is still under development.


Turkey could be interested to purchase Russian S 500 air defense missile system 925 001Scale model of S-500 TEL (Transporter Erector Launcher) air defense missile system.


"In our talks with Russia, we are not thinking of stopping with the S-400s. We have had talks on the S-500s too," Turkish media reports on Friday, October 13, 2017.

The negotiations between Turkey and Russia over the acquisition of S-400 became known in November 2016. In March, the head of the Rostec state corporation Sergei Chemezov said that Turkey had revealed its willingness to receive a credit from Russia for arms acquisition including S-400. In February, Chemezov said that Turkey showed its interest in S-400 and the sides were conducting negotiations over potential deliveries

In April 2017, Turkey’s National Defense Minister Fikri Isik said talks with Russia over a purchase of S-400 air defense systems reached the final stage.

In September 2017, the Russian press agency TASS has released a news, announced the delivery of Russian-made S-400 air defense missile systems to Turkey will begin within two years, Turkish Undersecretary for Defense Industry Ismail Demir said.


Turkey could be interested to purchase Russian S 500 air defense missile system 925 002S-400 TEL (Transporter Erector Launcher) at Army-2017, International Military Technical Forum near Moscow, Russia.


The S-400 Triumf is a long-range air defense missile system put into operation in 2007. It is designed to destroy aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, including medium-range ones, and ground-based targets. The S-400 missile has a maximum range of 400 km and can hit all air targets wit high accuracy.

The S-500 "Prometheus" (Russian name 55R6M Triumfator-M) is the latest generation of Russian-made surface-to-air defense missile system, currently under development by the Russian Defense Company Almaz-Antey company. According to Russian sources, the S-500 is an advanced version of S-400 with dedicated components designed to intercept ballistic missiles at a height of up to 200 km.
