An advanced Ratnik-3 combat gear with an integral exoskeleton and a helmet visor-mounted target designation system is currently being developed for Russia’s Armed Forces, Russian Army Commander-in-Chief Colonel-General Oleg Salyukov said.

An issue is being studied to improve the operational Ratnik combat gear. The R&D work has been designated as Ratnik-3.

"I think that it [the Ratnik-3 combat system] will incorporate the best technical solutions of the Ratnik gear but the talk is about a principally new outfit that will have improved protection, weapon, life support, control and power supply capabilities and feature exoskeleton structures, a system for displaying information and target designation on the helmet’s visor or eye-protection goggles, a microclimate maintenance system and a serviceman state monitoring system," the commander said.

According to Salyukov, about 100,000 Ratnik combat systems have already arrived for Russia’s Armed Forces.

"As of today, the Russian Armed Forces have received about 100,000 Ratnik combat systems that are widely used for combat training," the commander said.

As Salyukov said, the operational evaluation of the Ratnik combat gear has shown that the outfit is comfortable and ergonomic. No serious complaints to the combat gear have been made.

Therefore, "an issue is being discussed to deliver up to 70,000 Ratnik combat systems to the Armed Forces annually," he added.
