Russian frigate Neustrashimyy fires Kinzhal missile during sea trials in Baltic Sea.

According to information published by Tass on July 22, 2022, the Baltic Fleet’s frigate Neustrashimyy fired the Kinzhal system during its sea tests after the upgrade at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad in west Russia.

The Kinzhal air defense missile system able to defend the ship from adversary air-launched weapons flying at various speeds and from various directions was used to eliminate the aerial target.

According to the press office, the missile live-firing was practiced at Baltic Fleet sea ranges off the coast of the Kaliningrad Region.

It was reported earlier that large-scale work had been carried out to renew the ship’s mechanisms. Boost engines have been repaired and installed again. Armament and support mechanisms have been modernized.

About the Russian frigate Neustrashimyy

The frigate has a length of 129 m (423 ft 3 in), a beam of 15.6 m (51 ft 2 in), and a draught of 5.6 m (18 ft 4 in). She can reach a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).

Neustrashimyy is powered with two shaft COGAG 2x M70 or D090 cruise and 2x M90 boost gas turbines. They have a standard displacement of 3800 tons and a full displacement of 4400 tons.

The ship is armed with 2 x 4 SS-N-25 anti-ship missiles, 4 x 8 Vertical Launching System for SA-N-9 missiles, BU-6000 Smerch-2 anti-submarine rocket launcher, one 100 mm naval gun, and two Kortik (Kashtan) close-in weapon system.
