| 2023

The Chilean company Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército (Famae) is gearing up to launch its new Tornado-F semi-automatic pistol, caliber 9x19 mm, in the Chilean market in December 2023. Initially introduced as a prototype at Exponaval 2022, this model marks Famae's return to the handgun segment and the expansion of its product line. The development of this new generation of pistols started in 2019, with the first prototype of the 9x19 mm caliber pistol presented in 2020, initially named Vulcano, then renamed Volcano-F, with public sales beginning in October 2022.

As part of its plan to revitalize the handgun segment, the Chilean strategic defense company developed two new models, the Tornado-F and the Esparta-F, which differ from the Volcano-F in their polymer frames instead of steel. The choice of polymer, which is lighter, corrosion-resistant, and especially cheaper to produce than steel, reflects current manufacturing preferences and changes in demand and technology.

The Tornado-F is designed for immediate defense, featuring an ergonomic design and safety features for reliable handling. Its high-density polymer structure, resistant to impacts, helps reduce the weapon's weight to only 875 grams with an empty magazine. The slide, barrel, and internal components are made of steel, adhering to ISO 9001 standards.

The Tornado-F has a Picatinny rail and a hole in the handle for a safety cord. Its 112.5 mm barrel with six hexagonal grooves improves projectile concentration. The slide has front and rear grooves for easy weapon preparation, offering versatility. The surface treatment - phosphating and liquid painting - meets current high standards for firearms.

With a total length of 207 mm, a height of 140 mm, and a width of 30 mm, the Tornado-F is designed for comfort and efficiency. It has a magazine capacity of 16 rounds of 9x19 mm caliber. No special tools are needed for disassembly.

The launch of the Tornado-F is a major step for Famae, marking its return to the global arms market. Chilean police institutions and civilians have shown great interest in this model, and its mass production has recently begun.
