Polish army takes delivery of second PILICA short-range air defense cannons/missiles system.

According to information published by the "Defence 24" website on April 4, 2022, Polish consortium PGZ-PILICA has delivered the second PSRA Pilica Very SHOrt-Range Air Defense system (VSHORAD) to the 35th Air Defense Missile Squadron of the Polish Army.

The main weapon system of the PSRA Pilica consists of the ZUR-23-2SP which is based on the Soviet-made ZU-23-2.


Citing the "Defence 24" website, The first series manufactured PSR-A Pilica system is the second system of this class operated by the Polish Armed Forces. The first, prototype system has been commissioned in the 37th Air Defence Missile Squadron based in Sochaczew.

In December 2016, the Polish army has confirmed a $180 million contract for the acquisition of six batteries of the PSRA Pilica for the Polish Armed Forces.

The PSRA Pilica is a Very SHOrt-Range Air Defense system (VSHORAD) developed by a consortium of Polish Defense Companies including CRW Telesystem-Mesko, Jelcz, PCO, PIT-RADWAR, Prexer, and WZL under the lead of the Company Zaklady Mechaniczne Tarnow (ZMT). The PSRA Pilica battery includes six ZUR-23-2SP armed with a twin-barreled 23mm automatic cannon and GROM/PIORUN MANPADS (MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems) surface-to-air missile.

A standard PSRA Pilica short-range air defense battery includes six ZUR-23-2SP Jodek-SP missile/23mm automatic cannon artillery systems, a command vehicle, six towing trucks (one for each ZUR-23-2SP artillery weapon system), two ammunition trucks, and two transport trucks (based on military truck Jelcz 442.32), a Sola mobile radar station, a visual observation post as well as wired and wireless communication links.

The main weapon system of the PSRA Pilica consists of the ZUR-23-2SP which is based on the Soviet-made ZU-23-2. The armament of the ZUR-23-2SP includes a twin-barreled 23mm 2A14 automatic cannon and two two GROM or PIORUN MANPADS (MAN-Portable Air Defence Systems).

The ZUR-23-2SP has a maximum firing of 2 km for the 23mm cannons and 5 km for the GROM or PIORUN MANPADS Man-Portable air defense missile systems.
