Security Forces of India test French Sherpa 4x4 armoured.

According to the Hindustan Times website, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) of India has deployed a Sherpa 4x4 armoured vehicle on a trial basis at the Delhi Airport. The CISF is in the process of procuring armoured tactical vehicle to increase protection of airport in case of terrorist attack.

The Sherpa is 4x4 armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the French Company Renault Trucks Defense a subdivision of Volvo Group.

According to our first analysis, the Indian version of the vehicle is based on the Sherpa light but with an open cargo area at the rear. There is two doors on each side of the vehicle with additional armour fitted with small bullet-proof window and firing port in the upper part.

Standard equipment of the Indian Sherpa includes three cameras mounted on the roof of the vehicle offering 360 degree view and observation.

The Sherpa is a 4x4 light tactical armoured vehicle which can be used for tactical missions such as scouting, patrol, convoy escort and command and liaison.

The layout of the Sherpa Light is conventional with the engine at the front, crew and troops compartment in the middle and cargo area at the rear. There is two seats at the front for driver and commander and two or three seats at the rear.

The armour of the Sherpa Light offers a protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters to STANAG 4569 Level 1 and Level 2. It can also be fitted with retractable armour panels and add-on armour kits to provide additional protection.

The Sherpa Light is motorized with Renault MD-5 diesel engine developing 215 hp. It can run at a maximum road speed of 120 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 850 km à 70 km/h.
