Russian Airborne Forces will drop several BMD-4M combat vehicles from airlifters to test modern paradrop capabilities in the middle of May, the press service of the defense ministry said.

"A multi-dome system with a total space of close to four thousand square meters will smoothly descend the vehicle to the ground and provide a safe touch-down. BMD-4M will be prepared for the airdrop on the base of the Tula airborne unit in Ryazan and will be paradropped with full payload at a range in Ryazan region," it said.

After the combat vehicles are loaded on Il-76 at Dyagilevo airfield and land at the designated site it is planned to test their running capabilities and ability to engage in combat after landing and unlashing. It will be the first test trials of BMD-4M in the framework of government acceptance tests. There will be a total of over 20 tests.

The BMD-4M combat airborne vehicle (codename Sadovnitsa) is a heavily upgraded variant of the BMD-4 airborne IFV. It has a new hull, engine, running gear and other units. The vehicle is equipped with the Bakhcha-U turreted fighting module comprising a 100-mm main armament, a 30-mm coaxial automatic gun and a machinegun.
