Ukrainian Air Force sending MiG-29 of its defunct Falcons aerobatic team into combat.

| 2022

An old MiG-29 of the Ukrainian ‘’Falcons’’ aerobatic team apparently returned to service with foreign parts, David Axe reports in Forbes. On Tuesday, June 7, a video appeared on social media depicting a MiG-29 fighter in action with the Ukrainian air force which, before the war imposed by Russia since February 24, operated some 50 jets of this model.

The sight of this particular MiG-29 is unusual, David Axe comments, as this jet is wearing a bright paint scheme similar, but not identical, to that of the long-defunct Ukrainian Falcons display team. The Ukrainian Falcons aerobatic team was established in 1995 with 6 MiG-29 fighters (5 MiG-29 9-13s and 1 MiG-29UB) and disbanded in 2002, the same year the crash of a Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-27 at an air show near Lviv killed 77 spectators. A few MiG-29s in Falcons livery remained in service. One apparent ex-Falcons jet flew sorties over eastern Ukraine in 2014, in the early months of the initial Russian invasion of Crimea. And now, in June 2022, one of these MiG-29s seems to be back in action.
