Germany plans to give funds for Tunisia and Jordan to purchase Marder IFV armoured vehicle.

Berlin will give Amman 25 million euros ($28 million) to buy "Marder" tracked armoured personnel carriers, Spiegel said without giving sources.

The German money comes from a 100 million euro fund to strengthen partner states south of the European Union with crisis prevention, Der Spiegel said.

The Marder 1 is a German-made Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV) developed and designed by the Company Rheinmetall Landsysteme. The first prototype was built in 1960. Between 1961 and 1963, the second series of prototypes was built.

The two-man turret of the Marder 1 is armed with 20 mm Rheinmetall MK 20 Rh 202 cannon which is mounted externally and has an elevation of +65º, depression of -17º and 360º turret traverse. Mounted coaxially above and to the right of the 20 mm cannon is a 7.62 mm MG3 machine gun and mounted to the left of the 20 mm cannon are six electrically operated 76 mm smoke grenade dischargers
