Drawing its lineage from the Soviet-made T-72 Main Battle Tank, which was produced under license by Yugoslavia, the M84 has undergone significant transformations to meet the evolving demands of the Yugoslav Army. The original M-84 was equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore cannon, an automatic loading system, a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, and a 12.7mm anti-aircraft gun.

The M-84AS2, however, takes warfare to the next level. While retaining the 125mm smoothbore L48 gun and the 7.62mm coaxial machine gun, the tank now features a cutting-edge RCWS (Remotely Controlled Weapon Station) armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. This allows the tank commander to execute firing operations from within the tank, ensuring safety and precision.

A highlight of the M-84AS2 is its advanced Fire Control System. This includes a four-channel gunner sight, a stabilized panoramic commander's viewer, and a digital biaxial meteorological sensor. These features enable the gunner and commander to simultaneously track and acquire two separate targets, enhancing the tank's combat capabilities.

The M-84AS2 also prioritizes the commander's situational awareness. The tank is equipped with comprehensive video surveillance, a battle management system, and state-of-the-art digital communication equipment.

Protection has been significantly ramped up in the M-84AS2. The tank is now armored with a new generation of Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA), offering superior protection against advanced threats. Additionally, the tank is equipped with a laser radiation detection system and automatic smoke grenade dischargers, further enhancing its defensive capabilities. The tank has a combat weight of 46.5 tons.

Survivability remains a key focus. The M-84AS2 features an automatic fire and fuel explosion extinguishing subsystem and a multispectral camouflage net, reducing its visibility across various spectrums.

Lastly, the M-84AS2 promises enhanced mobility. With a revamped engine, new torsion bars, shock absorbers, and durable double-pin forged tracks, this tank is built for longevity and performance on the battlefield. The tank is motorized with a new diesel engine developing 840 hp. It can now reach a top road speed of 60 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 500 km.

This unveiling marks a significant milestone for the Serbian defense industry, showcasing their commitment to innovation and excellence in armored warfare.
