The Arthur radar system is a cornerstone of battlefield technology. As a lightweight, highly mobile weapon locating system (WLS), Arthur is designed for rapid deployment close to the forward line of its own troops. Its primary role is to quickly detect and track artillery projectiles, enabling commanders to efficiently calculate points of origin for counter-battery actions and provide vital intelligence on points of impact. The mobility, operational range, and precision of Arthur make it an unparalleled asset in Counter Battery Operations.

Arthur is currently operational in twelve countries, among them Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Spain, Italy, Greece and the UK. The system is battle-proven used by the British forces in the second Gulf War in 2003 and served with the British as well as other forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, where it was used in 24/7 combat operations.

Under this contract, Saab will leverage its global expertise and local presence. The work will be conducted by Saab's local support team in South Korea, in tandem with a team from Gothenburg, Sweden, responsible for the supply of spare parts and back-office support. This collaborative approach ensures a seamless integration of efforts and expertise.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance, expressed pride in the partnership, noting, “The Republic of Korea Armed Forces is the largest operator of our Arthur weapon locating system. We are proud to contribute to its capability by ensuring the systems remain in operation with excellent availability.”

The contract is a testament to Saab’s commitment to advancing defense technology and supporting international defense partnerships. With Arthur's advanced capabilities, the Republic of Korea’s armed forces will significantly bolster their defensive and offensive strategies, ensuring swift and accurate responses in the dynamic realm of modern warfare.
