Otokar denies Uganda is its African client for Arma 8x8 and Cobra II armored vehicles


On November 24, Army Recognition gave echo to information published by African Military Blog according which Uganda is the undisclosed African client who bought Otokar’s Arma 8×8 and Cobra II 4×4 armored vehicles. The Turkish manufacturer denies that Uganda is this client, while not being authorized to disclose the actual country name. But Otokar confirms it’s the first sale of its Arma 8x8 on the African continent.

Hereafter is the press release initially circulated: Turkey’s leading land systems manufacturer Otokar received an order from an African country for Arma 8x8 and Cobra II tactical wheeled armored vehicles worth around $110million. Otokar will begin to deliver the armored vehicles, which include the first order of Arma 8x8 from Africa, in2021.

The armored vehicles that Otokar designs and manufactures with high levels of protection and superior mobility continue to be favored by friendly and allied countries. With exports going at full speed, Otokar received an order from an African country for various armored vehicles, worth around $110million. The order consists of Arma 8x8 and Cobra II tactical wheeled armored vehicles, spare parts and training services, with plans to start delivery in 2021 and complete by the end of 2022.

Pointing out Otokar’s outstanding success in international markets, Serdar Görgüç, General Manager of Otokar, said: “Our armored vehicles, with all intellectual property rights owned by Otokar, are favored in the international arena thanks to our excellent engineering and superior R&D capabilities. With this order, our Arma 8x8 vehicle will begin to serve in missions in Africa for the first time. We are particularly proud to receive this order from a country that we have previously exported to. The vehicles that our client has already included in its inventory and has been pleased with became a reference for the new order. The client chose Otokar to meet its 4x4 and 8x8 tactical wheeled armored vehicle needs.”

Otokar’s armored vehicles currently serve in the inventories of more than 50 clients in over 35 countries. Recognized among the world’s handful of best-in-class vehicles, Otokar armored vehicles are preferred especially for their superior mobility, protection levels and survivability.
