According to information provided by the Estonian Ministry of Defense, during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, in Kyiv, Pevkur detailed this support. The package includes artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons, explosives, gas masks, sniper equipment, and smaller caliber ammunition, designed specifically to provide maximum support to Ukraine without compromising Estonia's defense capability.

"The overview that Defense Minister Umerov gave us of the situation on the battlefield confirmed that this package is necessary. However, it also clearly showed what Ukraine needs as a priority with the approach of summer: ammunition, all elements of air defense, as well as spare parts and electronic warfare equipment," said Minister Pevkur after he met with Ruslan Umerov, Ukraine's defense minister.

The package also contains 155 mm shells, contributing to the European Union's initiative to provide one million shells to Ukraine, with part of the funding provided by Denmark. The exact volume of ammunition provided has not been disclosed for security reasons. The 155 mm shells are of crucial importance in the conflicts in Ukraine, and depending on the volume committed, this could represent significant and strategic aid.

Pevkur also highlighted the crucial importance of ammunition, air defense systems, spare parts, and electronic warfare equipment for Ukraine as summer approaches.

It is a race to who can produce the most of these 155 mm shells, to give you an example, the American army revealed a new contract valued at 1.5 billion dollars, aimed at increasing the global production of these artillery munitions to support Ukraine and replenish stocks. These pieces of information underline the international importance given to improving ammunition production capabilities.

The downside of this announcement is undoubtedly the lack of detail, as neither the type nor the number of materials sent to Ukraine is known, only the total amount of aid has been communicated by the Estonian defense ministry.

Furthermore, the European Commission announced that by the end of March 2024, about 500,000 artillery shells will have been delivered to Ukraine as part of the EU's commitment. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, announced in January that the European defense sector would be capable of producing at least 1.3 million shells by the end of 2024.
