Paris, France, June 19, 2023 - At the Paris Air Show 2023, Raytheon, the American defense giant, displays its new GhostEye MR radar, a cutting-edge technology set to redefine the existing National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). The NASAMS, currently deployed with the Ukrainian armed forces in response to Russian aggression, is set to reap the benefits of this significant advancement.

NASAMS, developed in partnership with Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, has been a trusted medium-range air defense solution for over 30 years, adopted by the U.S. and 11 allied nations. The global reliance on NASAMS indicates the highest level of confidence in its robustness and reliability.

The incorporation of GhostEye MR radar into the NASAMS will dramatically expand the system's range and altitude, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the air defense capability. The new sensor maximizes the range of NASAMS's effectors, including the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile Extended Range (AMRAAM‐ER) variant, improving their accuracy and performance.

GhostEye MR's advantage lies in the fusion of two key technologies – active electronically scanned array (AESA), and military-grade gallium nitride (GaN). These components confer superior abilities on the sensor, enabling it to counter sophisticated long-range mass attacks.

This evolution of the NASAMS with GhostEye MR showcases the system's open architecture, which allows for technology adaptations and updates, further equipping it to counter ever-expanding medium-range threats.

The GhostEye MR also brings improved interoperability, and the capability to communicate with other systems, enhancing strategic agility and flexibility.

With GhostEye MR already approved for integration in the NASAMS fire direction-and-control loop, Raytheon Missiles & Defense has expedited its integration process. The company employed a comprehensive digital design environment to assess the radar's effective performance in a variety of mission scenarios, considering both its physical and functional characteristics.
