“For the first time abroad, we will show the K-16 armored personnel carrier and the K-17 infantry fighting vehicles on the Boomerang wheeled platform. The Russian Ministry of Defense developed the platform; it has the highest combat and operational capabilities,” TLAS quoted Kladov as saying, echoed by Boyko Nikolov on Bulgarian Military. According to him, the latest platform’s uniqueness lies in creating on its basis vehicles with a wide range of applications with different weapons and equipment.

In April 200, Russia started to promote the export of armored vehicles based on the latest Bumerang combat platform, with their sales estimated at about $1 billion, the press office of Russia’s state arms seller Rosoboronexport reported on Thursday, April 23: "Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec) has started to promote the latest Bumerang standardized combat platform developed and produced by the Military Industrial Company on foreign markets," the press office said in a statement.

The Boomerang, or Bumerang, is a new development of 8x8 armored vehicle personnel carrier launched by the Russian defense industry to replace the old BTR family used by the Russian armed forces. During the International exhibition of arms and military equipment RAE 2013 in Nizhny Tagil, the project of the vehicle was unveiled for the Prime Minister of Russia. The first prototype of the Bumerang was delivered in 2013. Serial production of the Boomerang is starting in 2020, to replace the BTR-82A and BTR-80 APCs currently in service with the Russian army, with a total of 2,000 vehicles in various configurations. In April 2015, the Boomerang was shown for the first time to the public during the rehearsal of Victory Day military parade in Alabino testing range, near Moscow. There are two variants of the Bumerang vehicle: the K-16 APC and K-17 IFV.
