Following the US's approval for Israel's sale of the Arrow-3 defense system to Germany, as reported by Army Recognition on August 17, 2023, Pistorius addressed the media, stating, "This acquisition is vital for our national security against ballistic missile attacks. Moreover, it signifies our commitment to the NATO alliance, as we aim to seamlessly integrate this system into NATO's air defense." Given the joint development and production of the missile defense system by both Israel and the US, Israel had to secure American approval before finalizing the deal.

In the wake of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine last year, Germany has earmarked a special fund of €100 billion ($108 billion) to enhance its military prowess. The anticipated expenditure for Israel's Arrow-3 missile defense system stands at approximately €4 billion ($4.3 billion), as per local news sources. Pistorius also highlighted that this strategic purchase would bolster the security of Germany's neighboring nations.

The Arrow-3 missile is a state-of-the-art missile defense system equipped with a two-stage engine. It boasts an impressive operational range of 2400 km and can reach a flight altitude exceeding 100 km. Furthermore, the Arrow-3 missile can achieve hypersonic speeds, making it exceptionally effective in intercepting and destroying long-range enemy ballistic missiles, including those armed with weapons of mass destruction. Its combination of extended range, high flight altitude, and hypersonic speed ranks it among the world's most advanced and efficient missile defense systems.

Manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries, the Arrow-3 system is designed to neutralize long-range missiles, especially those equipped with weapons of mass destruction. It remains to be seen how the system will be integrated into NATO's defense framework in Europe.
