French Company Eurenco Announces Plans to Increase Gunpowder Production.

| Defense News Army 2024

The French company Eurenco, specializing in powders and explosives, has announced its commitment to invest 500 million euros over three years to "produce more and faster," an initiative supported by the Ministry of Defense and deemed imperative due to the evolving security environment. This ambitious strategy to strengthen industrial capabilities will soon begin to bear fruit. We already reported on this on Army Recognition on March 28, 2024.

Vincent Dehaes, director of a production site, stated: "Eurenco's mission is to be the European leader in energy materials. That's who we are and what we aim to consolidate." In less than six months, the company has accumulated over one billion euros in orders in Europe alone, providing solid visibility until 2028 or even 2030, according to Thierry Francou, who has been leading the group since 2019.

This momentum has propelled the turnover beyond 350 million euros in the last fiscal year, mainly thanks to exports. With an ambitious goal to exceed 500 million euros this year, massive investments are needed, supported by increased visibility, solid profitability, and institutional support.

Bergerac, once threatened with closure, is now rising from its ashes with a two-part plan: first the production of powders, then that of modular charges. With an investment of 60 million euros, the production of propellant powder for large-caliber shells will resume this year, marking a strategic decision.

Dubbed "POURPRE," this ambitious project aims to establish a fully automated production line, integrating new technologies for improved performance. Despite the challenges, the team in charge of the project remains confident in its ability to meet deadlines.

In parallel, the expansion of modular charge production capacity is underway, with a third line scheduled for 2026. This strategy aims to strengthen the company's resilience and agility in the face of growing demand. Eurenco has also secured a contract worth nearly 900 million euros with the US Army to set up a production line for modular charge casings in Houston, Texas.

With the current dynamics of the production of various military equipment using explosive powder, such as the famous 155 mm artillery shells, it is not surprising to see companies like Euronco capable of producing this powder. It remains to be seen how Eurenco will manage this sudden and unexpected demand over time.
