Locally-made Tufan 4x4 armored vehicle stars at ADEX 2018


Two years after having been unveiled through a scale model during the last edition of ADEX International Defense Exhibition, the locally-made Tufan 4x4 MRAP is now being demonstrated in full scale at the ADEX 2018 show, held until 27th September at the Baku Expo Center.

By showcasing the first prototype of the Tufan MRAP development program, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Industry (MODIAR) is once again confirming its will to progress in developing fully indigenous products. 

Unveiled during ADEX 2016 and introduced for the first time outside Azerbaijan during IDEF 2017 in Turkey, the Tufan is designed to protect soldiers from impacts of 7,62x54 mm bullets, 155 mm shell blast, and IEDs according to STANAG 4569.

Developed by MODIAR, the Tufan uses a new design of a light combat vehicle featuring a monocoque structure with integrated v-shaped armoured hull offering a mine protection level of up to STANAG 3A, 8 kg of TNT explosion under the wheels.

The Tufan is able to carried a total of 10 military personnel including driver and commander and 8 infantrymen. The vehicle has a total weight of 12,300 kg with a maximum payload of 3,000 kg.

The Tufan is powered by a Kamaz Evro-2 turbocharged diesel engine developing 550 hp. The vehicle can run at a maximum speed of 85 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km.

The general layout of the vehicle is standard with the engine at the front, the crew compartment in the middle and troops area at the rear. The front of the crew compartment is fitted with two small bulletproof windows, there is also one small door on each side.

The roof of the vehicle is fitted with a remotely operated weapon station armed with 12.7mm NSVT heavy machine gun.
