Bushmaster MPV Wheeled 4x4 Multi Role Protected Vehicle Australia 925 001

Description

The Thales Bushmaster is a highly mobile, ballistics, mine and improvised explosive device (IED) blast-resistant Protected Mobility Vehicle (PMV). Bushmaster has an established family of modular armored vehicles offering high levels of protected mobility for combat, combat support and combat service support troops across a diverse range of mission profiles including troop movement, command and control, engineer support, and ambulance variants. Bushmaster has protected and saved lives during numerous incidents including offensive operations, ambushes and roadside bombings involving IED, FSP and RPG attacks and comes with a range of field upgradeable protection packages depending on the threat environment. The Bushmaster’s large internal volume within its monocoque body has an open architecture that can be easily adapted to meet multi-role requirements even in the field. Externally Bushmaster’s FOV has been designed with a modular approach allowing reconfiguration, and simplicity of repair with high levels of interchangeability between variants. In August 2008 it was reported that the Spanish Government was "showing strong interest in the Bushmaster". In 2009 it was reported that the Bushmaster could compete for the VAB replacement program under the name of Broussard (Bushmaster in French). In this competition, the Bushmaster will be competing against a lightened version of Nexter's VBCI and the Renault AMC. There is a requirement for 2,300 vehicles. In March 2022, Thales announced a new variant of the Bushmaster fitted with a twin-pack launcher for the 400kg Kongsberg Block 1A Naval Strike Missile (NSM) as a low-risk solution to the Australian Army’s Land 4100 Phase 2 land-based anti-ship missile (ASM) requirement. On May 5, 2022, Australia delivered 20 Bushmaster 4x4 armored vehicles to Ukraine in APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and ambulance versions. On May 19, 2022, Australia approved the sending of a new batch of 20 Bushmaster armored vehicles to Ukraine. On October 27, 2022, the Australian Government announced the delivery of 30 additional Bushmaster armored vehicles to Ukraine.

Technical Data

Armament
The standard 4x4 armored Bushmaster Thales is equipped with a remote weapon station, armed with a 5,56 mm or 12,7 mm machine gun. The Bushmaster can be also armed with three pintle-mounted weapon stations for 5.56 mm or 7.62 mm machine guns.
Design and protection
The design of the Bushmaster is standard for a modern wheeled combat vehicle with an engine at the front, crew cabin in the middle,, and troops compartment at the rear. The driver and commander are seated at the front with large bulletproof windows to their front and sides. The Bushmaster carries a total of 8 fully equipped infantrymen. The crew and infantrymen normally enter and leave the vehicle through a door located at the rear of the hull. The monocoque hull of the Bushmaster is of all-welded steel armor construction, which provides protection from both anti-vehicular and anti-personnel mines containing up to 9.5 kg of TNT, together with protection from 5.56 and 7.62 mm small arms fire. The vehicle can be armored to provide protection from 5.56 and 7.62 mm armor-piercing rounds using a composite appliqué armor kit. The underbody of the Bushmaster hull has been specially designed using V-hull technology to deflect mine blasts.
Mobility
The Bushmaster 4w4 armored is motorized with a Caterpillar 3126E ATAAC turbocharged six-cylinder. The engine produces up to 224kW (300hp) at 2,400rpm. It provides a power-to-weight ratio of 16kW/t, governed maximum cruise speed of 100km/h. The Caterpillar engine is coupled to a ZF 6HP502 ECOMAT G2 transmission providing six forward speeds, one reverse, and a converter lock-up. The vehicle has a range of more than 800km. The Bushmaster uses a 4x4 Arvin Meritor chassis 4000 series fully independent, progressive coil spring with the upper control arm and lower wishbone 5.186:1 total reduction.
Accessories
The troop compartment is fitted with eight face-to-face ergonomically designed seats with full four-point harness seat belts. The top of the crew compartment is fitted with three roof hatches with locking handles to provide protection against ambush and an alternative escape route. The Bushmaster is transportable in C-130 Hercules aircraft for rapid deployment in forwarding areas of operation. In option, the Bushmaster can be equipped with a run-flat system, an NBC protection system, and a 10-ton hydraulic winch.
