Test drive and live demonstration TATRA and Excalibur armoured and tactical military vehicles.
Army Recognition Editorial Team was one more time on the field in Czech Republic to perform a test drive about the latest armoured and tactical vehicles designed, manufactured or marketed by Czech Defense Companies TATRA and Excalibur Group. Army Recognition Editorial Team was invited at the TATRA factory test range located in Kopřivnice (Czech Republic) to attend a live demonstration organized by TATRA and Excalibur about their full range of tracked and wheeled combat vehicles in road and off-road conditions.
     
     
During the live demonstration TATRA has presented a full range of products, as the TITUS a new 6x6 multirole armoured vehicle which is a joint project including the Czech ComTatra HMHDpany TATRA and the French Company Nexter , the TATRA 4x4 High Mobility Heavy Duty (HMHD) equipped with a new armour cabin protected to Level 3 -3 a/b, the TATRA 8×8 HMHD Recovery Vehicle, an High Mobility Heavy Duty Recovery Vehicle able to recover armoured vehicles very quickly and efficiently in a tactical environment and is TATRA FORCE (T815-7) truck fitted with a General Dynamics European Land System (GDELS) bridge.

The TATRA 4x4 High Mobility Heavy Duty (HMHD) T-815-780R59 19 270 4x4.1R Tactical Truck is a member of the most recent development of the latest military family of TATRA trucks designed for rough terrain, difficult climatic and environment conditions.
The new TATRA 4x4 HMHD can offer a protection up to Level 3 - 3a/3b STANAG 4569, which provides a ballistic protection against firing of small arms 7.62 x 51 AP (WC core) at 30 meters and 8 kg (explosive mass) Blast AT Mine under activated under any wheel or track location (3a) or mine explosion under center (3b).

The armoured cabin has been designed from the ground up with an integrated blast management system and multi-layered scalable armour system. By placing the users at the centre of the development process and creating the protection system around them, the cabin offers very high levels of protection at low weight without compromising on comfort or usability. Equipped by power-assisted door opening and energy absorbing blast seats.

The TATRA High Mobility Heavy Duty Recovery Vehicle is able to recover armoured vehicles very quickly and efficiently in a tactical environment. The vehicle capability and payload enabling to recover heavy armoured vehicles and it is capable of towing most types of current and future wheeled vehicle systems and their variants. The vehicle is able to overturn crashed vehicles, perform slope recovery and make an access to unapproachable places.

The TATRA 8×8 HMHD Recovery Vehicle can be engaged into a high mobility recovery trailer for evacuation of completely immobilized vehicles. Rear lifting fork is controlled either from a fixed control panel or by the wireless remote control. The recovery vehicle is able to tow vehicles, with front axle load up to 14,000 kg.

The recovery vehicle is equipped by 44 tm Hiab crane with a remote control, thus crane operator can be positioned at the best possible location when operating the crane. The crane provides the most advanced control system on the truck-crane market today, delivering unrivalled speed, precision and safety, which maximize productivity by ensuring super-smooth operation in an instant.

The recovery vehicle is equipped by two main winches with constant pull 24 t, 100 m rope, and 2-ton additional winch with 220 m rope. Front dozer blade is removable and it can be used for engineering works like digging of tranches, making roads and removing obstacles or barriers. All-wheel drive. ADM (Automatic Drivetrain Management), a fully automatic differential lock operating system for managing locks. CTIS operated on the fly. Armoured cab in Level 2/2b STANAG 4569 – ballistic add-on armouring and anti-mined floor.

The TATRA truck fitted with the bridge system REB offer an high mobility bridge deployment system which can be used not only for military applications but also in case of natural disaster. The REB bridge is currently in service with the U.S. and the British army.
 
 
The REB design is based on experience gained with the AVLB BEAVER system and uses proven components and similar bridge sections. The automatically controlled hydraulic launching and retrieving procedure is done from the truck-mounted Bridge Adapter Pallet with its integrated launcher. The pallet can be adapted to every 10-15 tons PLS truck. Operational power is taken from the transport truck or from the pallet-integrated diesel-driven hydraulic system.

REB is horizontally free-launched, coupled together and then laid across the gap, thus providing a low profile signature to reduce enemy reconnaissance.

Originally developed for the U.S. Army’s Stryker units the REBS Rapidly Emplaced Bridge System is transported on and launched from a power-independent Bridge Adaptor Pallet (BAP) which can be loaded on any PLS truck with a payload capacity larger than 10 tons. The BAP together with the bridge itself is C-130 air-transportable. REBS provides crossing capability for combat vehicles up to MLC50 for gaps up to 13 m (42’ 7.8”).

Through its unrivaled level of modularity based on combat missions kits, operational environment kits and a wide family of variants, TITUS® (Tactical Infantry Transport & Utility System) is able to fulfill the full range of missions from Infantry transport to combat missions, combat support and combat service support functions, in any kind of type of commitments likely to occur in full spectrum of conflicts, including hybrid and counterinsurgency environment.

TITUS® is built on a unique chassis produced by TATRA TRUCKS Inc. based in Koprivnice, Czech Republic. The chassis consists of central backbone tube and independently suspended swinging half-axles. “The so-called TATRA concept proved itself time and again as a reliable system ensuring an excellent terrain crossing ability, maneuverability and crew comfort,” says Radomir Smolka, TATRA TRUCKS R&D Director.

TITUS® is fitted with a modular combat compartment designed by the French Company Nexter Systems which provides top-class ballistic protection and can reach ballistic level 2-4 according to STANAG 4569. Mine resistance capability of TITUS is classified as level up to 4a-4b. The vehicle can withstand IED blasts of up to 150 kg. Combined with state-of-the-art active and passive crew protection systems, TITUS® is an armored vehicle of choice for the demanding scenarios of the 21st century.

At the TATRA live demonstration, the Czech Company Excalibur Group showed also two combat vehicles, the ASCOD, a tracked armoured infantry fighting vehicle and the Pandur 8x8 armoured vehicle fitted with the Israeli-made turret Rafael Samson MkII 30mm.
 
 
The Pandur II is a family of 6x6 and 8x8 light armoured vehicles designed and manufactured by the Austrian company, Steyr-Daimler-Puch, now a subdivision of General Dynamics European Land Combat Systems.

The vehicle provides protection against 7.62mm armour piercing rounds. Add-on armour protects against 14.5mm armour piercing shells at 100m. Spall liners and additional armour protection against landmines can be fitted as an option.

Like its predecessor, the Israeli Rafael Samson MkII is a dual-axis, gyrostabilized, dual-sight (Gunner and Commander) remote-controlled weapon system capable of mounting multiple weapons. The Samson Mk II offers significant improvements, including lower silhouette, optional armor protection, and improved hit accuracy, boosted crew survivability with under-armor reloading, increased rigidity and higher gun elevation capabilities all which enable improved combat.

The Samson Mk II enables forces to effectively close the fire loop with varying degrees of firepower, from 7.62mm on the coaxial machine gun, through 23mm to 40mm main gun (western and eastern versions) and up to ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) engagement ranges. This gives forces mission flexibility in both urban and open country scenarios, with maximum survivability for the vehicle and crew.
     
At the TATRA live demonstration, the Czech Company Excalibur Group showed also two combat vehicles, the ASCOD , a tracked armoured infantry fighting vehicle and the Pandur 8x8 armoured vehicle fitted with the Israeli-made turret Rafael Samson MkII 30mm. The ASCOD (Austrian-Spanish Cooperative Development) first generation is a family of tracked armoured vehicles marketed by ASCOD AIE with headquarters based in Madrid, Spain. ASCOD is a jointly owned company set up by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG of Vienna, Austria and General Dynamics, Santa Barbara Sistemas (GDSBS) of Madrid, Spain.

The ASCOD 1 is in service with the Spanish army under the name of Pizarro and in the Austrian Army under the name of Ulan.

The ASCOD new generation of tracked infantry fighting vehicle is designed and manufactured by Steyr now General Dynamics European Land Systems. The ASCOD new generation offers higher level of protection than its predecessor.

The ASCOD uses a steel hull fitted with a modular armour package featuring innovative mine protection. It is also fitted with Soucy International rubber band tracks, which save weight but are quieter and generate less vibration. Coupled with the latest suspension, this provides a more comfortable ride for the crew across rough terrain.

General Dynamics European Land Systems and Excalibur Group from Czech Republic join their strengths to market the ASCOD light tracked armoured vehicle to offer a modern solution to replace old Soviet-made BMP-1 and BMP-2 in Eastern Countries.

In January 2015, the companies entered into a collaboration that allows Excalibur Army to exclusively market, sell and service the PANDUR II 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle family and Ascod in Czech Republic and other selected markets in Eastern Europe and Asia. The vehicles will be manufactured under license at Excalibur Army sites in Czech Republic and Slovakia. General Dynamics European Land Systems- Steyr will support Excalibur Army’s activities with design services and delivery of components.

The ASCOD showed during the live demonstration was fitted with remote weapon station armed with a stabilised .50 M2 HB heavy machine gun.

In September 2014, United Kingdom has annouced the order for 589 General Dynamics UK Scout Specialist Vehicle (SV) platforms in a GBP3.5 billion (USD5.8 billion) contract.

Based on the General Dynamics Santa Barbara Sistemas ASCOD 2 infantry fighting vehicle chassis, the Scout SVs will provide a major increase in firepower, ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance), and protection capabilities over the CV(T) vehicles, but are significantly larger and heavier.

Scout SV will replace the British Army's Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) - CVR(T) - family of vehicles, which have been in service since the 1970s.
