Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

For the new Heidar-6, the original turret of the BTR-60PB is removed and replaced by a Soviet-made BMP-1 one-man turret armed with one 73 mm Model 2A28 smoothbore, low-pressure, short-recoil gun which weighs 115 kg. The gun is fed thanks to a 40-round magazine located to the right rear of the gunner position.

Second armament of the turret includes a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun mounted coaxially to the right of the main gun. A launcher for a Kolomna KBM 9K 11 Malyutka AT-3 Sagger wire-guided ATGW is mounted on the roof of the turret. One missile is carried in the ready to launch position with a further two missiles in the turret, these are loaded via a rail through a hatch in the forward part of the turret roof. A further two missiles are carried in the hull.

The BTR-60PB is Soviet-made wheeled armoured vehicle personnel carrier wgich was seen for the first time during a Russian military parade in November 1961. The hull of the BTR-60P is of all-welded steel armour with the driver and commander seated at the front of the hull, the open-topped personnel compartment behind them and the engine compartment at the very rear of the hull.

The BTR-60PB is motorized with two GAZ-49B 6-cylinder in-line water-cooled petrol engine developing 90 hp. at 3,400 rpm coupled to a manual transmission with 4 forward and 1 reverse gears. The BTR-60PB can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h with a maximum road range of 500 km.
