It is worth noting that this shipment is distinct from previous donations made by the USA to Serbia: in 2012 and 2017, the USA donated a total of 40 Humvees to the Serbian Army, primarily used by the Special Brigade in Pančevo and the 31st Infantry Battalion in Zaječar. As per available information, Serbia plans to equip the new Humvees with devices from domestic military factories, and there is a possibility of fitting them with a 12.7 mm machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher on a universal mount.

The history of Humvees in Serbia traces back to the 1990s when the now-disbanded Special Operations Unit (JSO) of the Department of State Security first acquired civilian versions of the Hummer. These vehicles were later modified with armor and improvised weaponry.

The HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), commonly known as the "Humvee," has been a crucial part of the US military's ground fleet since its introduction in 1984. AM General has manufactured over 281,000 units, and its popularity extends beyond the US, as many allied forces worldwide have adopted it for their military operations. In 2015, the Oshkosh L-ATV was selected to replace the Humvee in front-line service under the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) program.

The vehicle's versatility lies in its ability to be equipped with various specialized kits and equipment, enabling it to fulfill roles such as troop transport, command and control vehicle, medical evacuation unit, and armament carrier. Some variants are equipped with a heavy machine gun, an automatic grenade launcher, or an anti-tank missile launcher.

The HMMWV is powered by a selection of engines, including a 6.2-liter V8 diesel, a 5.7-liter gasoline engine, or a 6.5-liter V8 turbo diesel or non-turbo diesel. The engine's performance may vary slightly between models, but the power output typically stands at around 190 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 515 Nm of torque at 1,700 rpm, depending on the engine variant. The vehicle is equipped with either a 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth and efficient power delivery to all four wheels. The HMMWV can reach a top speed of 113 km/h under optimal conditions.
