Finnish Company Patria has introduced new XA-220 6x6 armored vehicle with many improvements.
In May 2016, the Finnish Defense Company Patria has introduced a new upgrade of its XA-220 6x6 armoured vehicle. Feedback and development ideas received from the vehicle’s user countries are reflected in the changes made.

Manufactured since the mid-1980s, the XA-180 6x6 armoured vehicles have by now achieved the respectable age of 30 years and with these life-span solutions will serve the military of their user countries long into the 2030s.

The new XA-220 armoured vehicle combines many improvements including a new power pack which consists of a Cummins ISLe 8.9 engine. The electrical systems are upgraded with new AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries and power supply panels.

The vehicle is fitted with new LED/IR white lights at the front of the vehicle and driver can see the rear side of the vehicle tanks to a reverse camera.

The suspension of the XA-220 upgrade used a new suspension with adjustable shock absorbers. The steering systems is also upgraded with steering shock absorbers.

Modifications implemented to the XA-220 upgrade includes also new crew seats to enhance safety and increase protection against mine blast and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices). There is a new exterior surface coatings.

The troops compartment are now equipped with machine gun rail and personal weapons holder. There is firing ports on each side and at the rear of the hull.

The new XA-220 offers now more comfort, mine protection, armour protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters, road speed and high mobility in all-terrain conditions. It also offers more internal space compared to other similar military vehicles available to the current market.
