Netherlands marines assist police with Anaconda off-road vehicles during tropical storm.

| 2020

Due to the arrival of tropical storm Isaia, the Netherlands (Dutch) Defense has been supporting local authorities in Saint-Martin (in the Caribbean). The armed forces assist the police on request with three Iveco Anaconda off-road vehicles. They are intended to be used on roads where police cars can no longer come, for example, due to rainfall or damage.

The DMV Anaconda 4x4 (DMV, Dutch Military Vehicles) is a robust all-terrain vehicle. The vehicle has been specially developed for the Marine Corps in the Netherlands Antilles. Their priorities are mobility and humanitarian aid. The Anaconda is foreseen to be armed but can carry a lot of supplies.

The Marine Corps drove 40 Mercedes-Benz G280 CDIs on Curaçao. This armored vehicle was actually overqualified for the duties of the Marines in the West. For example defense of Dutch territory, emergency aid in the region, support for the authorities and patrols in difficult terrain. The army has a great need for the MB. Therefore, those of the Marines are replaced by 46 Anacondas.

The Anaconda weighs 6 tons when loaded. It is based on the Iveco Daily 4x4. It is produced in four variants:
* command variant: has no main armament, but is equipped with sufficient radio equipment for a command post;
* patrol variant: has main armament and a limited amount of radio equipment;
* general support variant: is a workhorse without radio equipment but with armament;
* school variant: the same as the general support variant, only with an additional brake pedal that can be folded in for the co-driver.
