The LAV 8x8 amphibious armoured vehicle have replaced the old Spanish-made BMR-600 in service since 1987 with the Peruvian Naval Infantry.

The vehicles have been designed especially to Peruvian specifications: they are low-maintenance and lightweight so they can move and manoeuvre quickly in Peru’s varied and difficult terrain.

The all-welded steel hull of the LAV II provides the crew a ballistic protection against firing of small arms fire and shell splinters, with the driver being seated at the front of the hull on the left with the power pack to his right.

The Peruvian Navy has named its LAV-IIs the 'Cayman', in honor of a Special Forces group deployed against Shining Path insurgents in the 1980s.

The LAV II is a fully amphibious 8x8 armoured which will increase the capacity of the Naval Infantry of Peru. The LAV II is fully amphibious with a maximum of 3 minutes preparation, being propelled in the water by two propellers mounted one either side at the rear.

The LAV- II for Peru is fitted with an open-top turret mounted at the front of the hull which can be armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun or 40mm automatic grenade launcher. The vehicle can carry a total of 10 military personnel including driver, commander and gunner.
