"We will fully rearm all large units with the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system by 2020," he said. According to the commander, the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system will substitute the Tochka-U complex.

According to Matveyevsky, Russia’s Central Military District has received a brigade set of the Iskander-M missile system, which comprises about 50 items of military hardware, including launchers, transporter-loaders, command and staff vehicles and technical and life support vehicles.

Large units in the Southern and Eastern Military Districts have been rearmed with the advanced missile system too, the general said.

"As far as the prospects of the development of the missile system are concerned, we can say today that the Iskander-M complex is the best missile system of this type. It can penetrate any anti-ballistic missile defense," Matveyevsky said.

"However, we should go on. Russian defense contractors are currently upgrading the missile system to improve its combat and operational characteristics," he added.

Iskander-M Missile SS-26 Stone is a short range tactical missile system developed and produced in Russia. The Iskander-M missile system is equipped with a solid-propellant single-stage guided missile 9M723K1 controlled throughout the entire flight path and provided with a non-separable warhead. The missile is designed for mobile, autonomous operation and is capable of striking point and area targets at ranges of 50 – 400 km.

The SS-21 Scarab (Russian name : 9M79 "Tochka") is a Russian made short range ballistic missile. In the late 1960s the Russian decided to start the process of developing a guided successor to the unguided artillery rocket known to the West as the FROG-7,

This is a solid-propellant missile of the single-stage type. The basic missile has a range of 70 km. The SS-21 can carry a number of tactical warhead types including 9N123F HE-fragmentation type with 120 kg of explosive with a terminal guidance package (radar and terrain-comparison) yielding a CEP of 30m. Other warheads are the AA60 tactical nuclear, 9N123K carrier with 'smart' sub-munitions, and chemical. The SS-21 Scarab uses two missiles, the 9M79F with the 9N123F fragmentation-HE warhead, and the 9M79K with the 9N123K cluster warhead.
