Description
The URAN-14 is a multifunctional tracked robotic system which is designed for extinguishing fires in life-threatening, hazardous environments and inaccessible areas. The Uran-14 is based on the Croatian-made DOK-ING MVF-5, a multifunctional robotic firefighting system developed to extinguish fires in life threatening conditions and inaccessible areas. The original design of Uran-14 is based on the proven technology used in construction of demining systems able to survive mine detonations and other hazardous operations in the most demanding and destructive environments. Besides fire fighting robot, designed to eliminate the consequences of technological accidents, engineering reconnaissance and delivery to the use of fire-fighting equipment in remote control. The robot is designed for use in areas of high temperatures and other life-threatening conditions. The URAN-14 was demonstrated during the International military and technical forum “Army-2015". In 2015, the first prototype of the URAN-14 was delivered to a Russian army base in the Trans-Baikal region.

The URAN-14 can be configured as fire-fighting vehicle or as mine/obstacle clearance vehicle. It can be fitted with fire-fighting technologies, plus two storage containers for water and foam, Uran-14 can extinguish fires with minimal damage to itself and its operators, who remain outside the range of danger during operation. The fire-fighting systems consists of an hydraulic arm fitted with an infrared thermal camera and an high pressure water jet systems with a 55m throw range. The front of the URAN-14 is equipped with one dozer blade which push obstacle up to 10 tons of weight. There is also a rotational gripper which be used for mine clearance and can lift obstacle up to 2 tons of weight. The gripper can also penetrate buildings, cut wires , and be used as the jaws of life. Claw equipment in the form of shears can be installed on the front of the vehicle which is driven by hydraulic power. This tool is capable of cutting through obstacles with the maximum force of 18 kN. An hydraulic winch can be mounted on the rear side of the vehicle which has a rated pulling force of 7,100 kg, and a steel rope with a length of 25m. A sophisticated video system allows the operator to have full control of the vehicle movement during operation. The video system consists of six high resolution and waterproof cameras. One of the cameras is a thermal camera, which allows the URAN-14 to operate during the reduced visibility conditions. The cameras are positioned on the water monitor, gripper attachment and other components allowing the operator to control the machine and its performance during various operational modes.
Design and protection
The URAN-14 is built on welded steel construction using proven technology that was designed to survive explosives environment, fragmentation and other hazardous operations in the most demanding and destructive of environments. With its low center of gravity combined with its powerful engine and compact structure, the URAN-14 entails excellent maneuverability. The roof of the vehicle is equipped with an hydraulic arm which is used as water canon up to a distance of 55m. The middle part of the vehicle is used as water tank with a capacity of 2,000 liters of water or 500 liters of foam. There is also a middle pressure fire pump located at the rear of the vehicle.
Mobility
The URAN-14 is based on a tracked chassis and motorized with a 6 cylinder Turbo-charged Diesel engine developing 240 hp. The vehicle can run at a maximum speed of 10 km/h.
Combat use
The URAN-14 can spray 2,000 liters of water of 500 liters foam per minute. Tank capacity consists of 2,200 liters of water or 500 liters of foam. The water monitor is fitted on a specially designed 3-level hydraulic arm which enables delivery of extinguishing resources in all desired directions. Using the remote control technology, the URAN-14 system can be operated from a distance up to 1,500 m in line of sight. GPS-INS (Global Position System – Inertial Navigation System) would turn the current system into a real robot ensuring the URAN-14 return to the original location, even if radio communication is lost. The URAN-14 is also equipped with highly sophisticated surveillance and multi-purpose tools that include functional sensors, CBR detectors (heat, explosive gases and oxygen), several functional cameras for surveillance and reconnaissance tasks, tools for hazard removal, resource hauling and a firefighting tool kit.
