John Cockerill cockerill xc 8 105mm 120mm turret 1

Description

The Cockerill® XC-8 weapon system is a low-weight concept-turret. This concept is a response to the current market requirements, with the goal to offer solutions of light and medium-tanks. This turret can thus be equipped with one of two low-recoil force guns: the Cockerill® 105mm gun or the Cockerill® 120mm gun. The Cockerill® XC-8 gun-turret represents a significant advance in terms of direct firing by medium weight vehicles. The combination of lethal and adaptable options and exceptional tactical and strategic mobility open up a new range of operational possibilities. In June 2018, John Cockerill has performed a live demonstration with its Cockerill® XC-8 weapon system armed with a 105mm cannon mounted on a South Korean K-21 tracked chassis, offering a new generation of light tank. This combination provides significant direct fire capability, based on relatively light and mobile chassis. Due to its lighter weight this tank is more strategically and tactically mobile, comparing with main battle tanks.

Technical Data

Description
The Cockerill® XC-8 weapon system is based on a two-man turret that can be armed with one of two low-recoil force guns including the Cockerill® 105mm gun or the Cockerill® 120mm gun. The Cockerill® 105mm high pressure gun provides commanders with a wide choice of ammunition to suit the tactical situation; it fires all NATO-standard 105mm types. Thanks to its firing angle of up to +42° this weapon delivers exceptional engagement capability in complex terrain, and indirect-fire HE capability to 10km range. The Cockerill® 120mm high pressure gun provides a strengthened anti-armor capability. This weapon fires all NATO-standard 120mm smoothbore ammunition. In option, the turret can be equipped with Smoke Grenade Launchers mounted at the rear on both sides of the turret. It also features full NBC protection and optional “soft-kill” Active Protection Systems (laser detection). The 105mm main gun is capable of firing all standard NATO 105mm ammunition including CMI Defences own Falarick 105 Anti-Tank Guided Missile.
Design and protection
The two-man Cockerill® XC-8 weapon system can be fitted with armor to offer ballistic protection up to level 5 STANAG 4569, against 25 mm APDS-T (M791) or TLB 073 ammunition at 500 meters. The turret weight is kept low through the use of a bustle-mounted autoloader, which enables a two-person crew.
Accessories
The two-person XC-8 concept turret can be fitted with a computerized fire control system that includes stabilised day/thermal sights for the commander and gunner, with the former allowing hunter/ killer target engagements to take place. Both crews’ sights have a day and thermal channel, allowing the vehicle to operate in all-weather conditions 24hrs a day. The turret is fitted with electrically controlled stabilization of the main gun providing high levels of accuracy whether the vehicle is static or moving. The turret also features full NBC protection and optional “soft-kill” Active Protection Systems (laser detection).
