The BM-21UM Berest is bein proposed to replace the Soviet-era BM-21 Grad MLRS systems used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to official informations, Ukrainian Ground Forces still operate about 300 BM-21 systems.

"New digital technologies and a new domestic chassis gives the Berest a key operational advantage, which greatlty expands combat capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces," says UkrOboronProm on its website.

One of the main new features of the BM-21UM system is the new digital fire control system installed in the cabin, which allows the crew to manage the firing in security. New battlefield information system integrated on the Berest gives the crew the possibility to gather and analyze in real time a wide range of data coming from various platforms such as drones, counterbattery radars, and other surveillance systems.

Another critical capability of the new BM-21UM Berest is the rockets firing capacity, which has been increased to 50 per firing, compared to the 40 rockets of previous versions. The BM-21UM is mounted on a new Kraz-5401 4x4 chassis equipped with a two-row four-door cabin, which gives enough space for the fire control equipment. BM-21 rockets has an operational firing range of about 40 km, with latest technology development allowing a 52 km range, depending on the warhead.
