Trophy active protection system for combat vehicle has intercepted five anti-tank missiles in Gaza.
The Trophy active protection system for combat vehicles has showed its efficiency during the Israeli military operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip. It's the first real test of Trophy during real combat operations and the Trophy system has intercepted five anti-tank missiles aimed at armored IDF vehicles in Gaza.

The Trophy systems was developed and manufactured by the Israeli Company Rafael and was first used by IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in late 2010.

The Trophy is a situational awareness and active protection hard kill system that operates in three major stages: Threat detection and threat tracking followed by hard kill countermeasure (Multiple Explosive Formed Penetrators – MEFP) activation and threat neutralization. The neutralization process takes place only if the threat is about to hit the platform.

The Trophy was declared operational by the IDF in August 2009 and is currently in full production. Merkava 4 tanks integrated with Trophy active protection systems are presently being deployed in combat areas along Israel's borders.

The Trophy system is adaptable to any combat platform. Once a platform is chosen, a short trade study is completed to work out any integration issues that may arise. Numerous elements are taken into consideration for each vehicle variant or type. For vehicles with relatively basic or light armor, e.g. the Stryker, the Trophy provides full protection against all types of RPG (as well as other threats) due to the fact that the Trophy destroys these types of threats without detonation.

Trophy is a situational awareness and Active Protection Hard Kill (HK) System (APS) which is available in two main configurations: HV-MV (Heavy and Medium Armored Vehicle) and LV (Light Armored Vehicle). Both configurations dramatically boost the force’s survivability, and provide a vital add-on capability for the maneuvering combat teams.

Trophy HV-MV neutralizes all types of Chemical Energy (CE) threats in flight, addressing them in four major stages: Threat detection, threat tracking, Hard Kill (HK) countermeasure (Multiple Explosive Formed Penetrators - MEFP) activation, and threat neutralization. Only those threats which are about to hit are actioned, thereby conserving on ammunition and possible collateral damage.

Trophy-LV eliminates all RPG threats which are about to hit the vehicle. First, it acquires the threat, then charges the threatened side of the vehicle, and literally beheads the rocket before it has a chance to initiate or make impact.
