The United States Marine Corps is experimenting with a new unmanned ground vehicle that can patrol installations and detect intruders or potential enemy forces nearly a mile away. The Mobile Detection Assessment Response System, or MDARS, was used in late January to successfully secure an air base during the latest Integrated Training Exercise.

DARPA unveiled the Transformer (TX) program in 2009. Transformer aimed to develop and demonstrate a prototype system that would provide flexible, terrain-independent transportation for logistics, personnel transport and tactical support missions for small ground units. In 2013, DARPA selected the Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES) design concept to move forward.

United States Picatinny engineers to upgrade C3 105mm towed howitzer of Canadian army
 

The Canadian Royal Army has enlisted the help of United States Picatinny engineers to evaluate the life-span of their World War II-era C3 105mm towed howitzer. "We are looking for engineering data that, unfortunately, we're missing right now," said Canadian Army Maj. David Lebel, Equipment Management team leader for Field Artillery Systems.

A video found on internet shows a Russian-made armoured infantry fighting vehicle BMP-1 used by the Syrian rebels upgraded with an armour package. The video was released on December 17, 2013 by the insurgent grouping Jaish al-Islam. The video was taken during a military operation by the Syrian rebels against buildings in the suburbs east of Damascus.

More than 400 United States Marines and sailors deployed Jan. 13-15 to Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Shizuoka prefecture, Japan, to participate in Artillery Relocation Training Program 13-4 with M777A2 lightweight howitzers. The program is a 17-year-old regularly scheduled training cycle, which is designed to enhance the combat readiness of U.S. Marine forces in support of the U.S.-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security.
