French DGA conducts mobility and weapon tests with new Jaguar 6x6 armored vehicle for French army


According to pictures released by the Twitter account of the French army procurement agency (DGA) on December 11, 2020, the DGA continues the tests with the Jaguar EBRC (Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance et de Combat - Reconnaissance and Combat Armored Vehicle) including all-terrain trials and weapon firing tests using the 40mm cannon.

The Jaguar EBRC (Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance et de Combat - Reconnaissance and Combat Armoured Vehicle) is one of the vehicles of the Scorpion program of the French Army, it will replace the AMX-10RC, the ERC-90 Sagaie and the VAB Hot in service with the French Army. The EBMR program includes the delivery of 248 Jaguar EBRC to the French Army which could be started in the second half of 2021.

On 6 December 2014, the French Minister of Defense announced the first order of 20 Jaguar vehicles and in September 2020, 42 additional vehicles were ordered for the French Army. In total the French Army plans to acquire 300 Jaguars. The vehicle has been also selected by the Belgian army, with a plan to purchase 60 Jaguars.

The Jaguar is a new generation of 6x6 armored vehicle jointly manufactured by the GME, a consortium formed by the French companies Nexter Systems, Renault Trucks Defense, and Thales.

The Jaguar EBRC will be fitted with a two-man turret 40 CTAS armed with one 40mm CTC cannon with Ammunition Handling System (AHS). The 40mm cannon will have a maximum range of 1,500 m. Each side of the turret will be fitted with MMP (Missile Moyenne Portée - Medium Range Missile) missile designed by the French Company MBDA. The MMP missile is a fire-and-forget missile with a lock-on before launch and automatic self-guidance which has a maximum range of 4,000m.

The Jaguar EBRC has a crew of three including the driver, commander, and gunner. It has an armor providing armor protection STANAG 4569 Level 4 against the firing of small arms 14.5mmx114 AP, 155mm artillery shell splinters at 30m, and mine blast protection of 10 kg TNT under the wheels and the hull.

The Jaguar is motorized with a Diesel engine developing 500 hp manufactured by the French company ARQUUS previously Renault Trucks Defense. It can run at a maximum road speed of 90 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km.
