CETC from China develops its XY-I drone using Turkish Bayraktar TB2 UAV design

In recent years China has developed the design and production of drones for civilian and military applications. Chinese advances are most evident in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), an area in which China has made substantial investments for a number of years, but the Chinese defense industry is also accelerating its development of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs). In fact, at AirShow China 2022, different types of UGVs and USVs were unveiled for the first time to the public.

A scale model of the XY-I was unveiled by the Chinese company CETC (China Electronics Technology Group Corporation) using the design of the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 UAS (Unmanned Aerial System). Citing information published by CETC, the XY-I is a medium-sized multi-purpose drone that has full autonomous flight capabilities and all-day long endurance.

The CETC XY-I is designed to be used for dual-purpose tasks in military or civilian sectors. It can perform missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, border patrol, electronic warfare, communication, and attack roles.

Like the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2, the CETC XY-I has a blended wing body design with an inverted V-tail structure. The engine compartment of the XY-I is a little different from the Bayraktar TB2. It has a two-blade propeller in a pusher configuration.

The CETC XY-I can be equipped with a wide range of payloads that can quickly and easily be changed according to the mission requirements. It can be fitted with electro-optical platform, reconnaissance, and communication systems as well as weapons including bombs and air-to-surface missiles.

Regarding the technical specifications of the XY-I, the Chinese company CETC did not disclose any information.
