At DVD 2010, Force Protection presents the new version of its MPCV Mine Protected Clearance Vehicle, the Buffalo A2. This vehicle is the recognized leader in the route clearance missions around the globe and the first version of the Buffalo is currently in service with the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France and Italy. The A2's improvements include increased engine power and greater compatibility, increased driving range, increased fording and slope angle performance, enhanced HVAC and a common spare for all six tires. |
Armament |
The Buffalo A2 does not have any armament for the basic version. |
Design and protection |
The Buffalo A2 is a heavily armored truck specifically designed to protect its occupants in the event of an attack by a mine or improvised explosive device, or IED. According to the manufacturer, the Buffalo's armored V-shaped hull is able to direct an explosion on the ground away from the vehicle, helping to minimize damage. The latest version are also equipped with armour cage.
|
Propulsion |
The Buffalo A2 is equipped with a 6x6 chassis, and it is motorized with an Caterpillar C13 12.5 liter engine, coupled to an Caterpillar transmission CX 31 with six speed. The Buffalo A2 can run at a maximum speed of 88 km/h, to a maximum range of 531 km.

Accessories |
As for the first version of the vehicle, the Buffalo A2 is equipped with an 30 feet long arm with a high resolution camera and other tools that allow a soldier to examine potentially dangerous items and locate hidden IEDs. The arm is also equipped with a new claw, allowing soldiers to locate, search, manipulate and disable buried devices and devices in locations that the previous version of the claw had difficulty accessing. The arm system, with its improved ability to manipulate and disable devices outside the vehicle, provides an obvious advantage in the protection of combat engineers and EOD personnel who will be using this vehicle. The Buffalo A2 can be transported by a C-17 cargo aircraft.
