Description

Mastiff 2 is a heavily armored, 6 x 6 wheel-drive patrol vehicle that carries eight people, plus two crew. The vehicles are based on the US Cougar made by Force Protection, with the UK integration work carried out by NP Aerospace, based in Coventry. It joined operations in June 2009, succeeding the Mastiff armored patrol vehicle. It is suitable for road patrols and convoys and is the newest in a range of protected patrol vehicles being used for operations. These wheeled patrol vehicles have a less intimidating profile than tracked vehicles and give commanders on the ground in Afghanistan more options to deal with the threats they are facing. The Mastiff 2 is one of the most heavily armored vehicles that are used by the British Armed Forces. It is the latest addition for the British Army, to the wide range of highly effective and protected patrol vehicles that are used for army operations.

Technical Data

Armament
The Mastiff 2 is armed with the latest weapon systems, including a 7.62 mm general-purpose machine gun, 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. The latest generation of Mastiff vehicles are equipped with a remote weapon system including a joystick and a camera to provide a high level of accuracy.
Design and protection
The Mastiff 2 design features a V-shaped hull, blast run-flat tires, internal liners, and shock-mounted seating. The ballistic protection offered by the Mastiff 2 permits heavy combat engagements. This combat vehicle features mine protection technology. The Mastiff 2 is fitted with Dyneema Unidirectional (UD) armor, a special material used for improving protection and flexibility. The best protection will be guaranteed. The wisdom of buying and using the Mastiff 2 is evident especially when it comes to the landmines because this vehicle can be used in order to carry the necessary assortment of military equipment.
Mobility
Mastiff 2 is powered by the Caterpillar C-7 diesel engine. This engine yields up to 330-shp of power. This power allows the Mastiff 2 to cruise at almost 55 mph (90 km/h) at ranges of up to 700-800 miles (1,280 km) while on the road. For instance, bomb disposal robots can be carried. Mastiff 2's power reaches 330 shp while its cruise speed can reach 25 mps. Mastiff 2 has improved suspension and axles in order for the driver to cope with all the harsh weather and terrain conditions.
Accessories
The Mastiff 2 has electronic countermeasures and Bowman radios in order to face every type of threat. Additional armor can also be because Mastiff 2 can provide the operators with a safe environment far beyond the standard level. The weapon system is equipped with a fire control system.
