Description
The Terrier is a lightly armoured highly mobile, general support engineer vehicle optimised for battlefield preparation in the indirect fire zone. The TERRIER is an agile, capable and air-transportable general support engineer vehicle with a wide variety of early entry, combat support and post-conflict roles. The Terrier is designed and manufactured by the International Defense Company BAE Systems. These include obstacle and mine clearance, digging-in equipment and troops, route opening and maintenance, and general engineer tasks. It enhances the force commander’s capability to fix and strike the enemy whilst helping to protect his own combat power. Following a competition, in 2002 BAE Systems was awarded a contract for the design, development and production of the new and more capable TERRIER Manoeuvre Support Vehicle (MSV). The first prototype of TERRIER was rolled out at the Land Systems Leicester systems integration facility in mid-2005 and has since been engaged in a demanding series of trials at various locations in the UK. The first Teriler was delivered to the British Army in June 2006. Sixty vehicles are being delivered under the programme which are being built in Newcastle. The final vehicle will be delivered to the British Army by January 2014, five months ahead of schedule.

Technical Data
Armament
The Terrier is armed with 7.62mm machine for his self-defence protection, the vehicle is also equipped with electrically operated smoke grenade launchers which provide cover through a full 360 degrees. The system can be upgraded to incorporate an overhead weapon station and user specified smoke dischargers.
Design and protection
The hull of the TERRIER is made in all welded steel, which provide a protection for the crew against small arms fire and shell splinters with an integral crew compartment spall liner being standard. The double skinned floor has been designed to provide improved protection against mines and additional armour could be added as the threat evolves. It is also ready for installation of a defensive aids suite that could include magnetic signature duplicators.
Propulsion
The Terrier is motorised with the Caterpillar C18 diesel engine, Caterpillar built X300 series automatic transmission, equipment excavator arm, Horstman Defence Systems hydrogas suspension and lightweight alloy road wheels based on Hägglunds CV90 technology to name but a few. TERRIER has the speed, mobility and survivability to operate with other armoured vehicles and has no less than five manoeuvre support roles and 26 special to role tasks.
Accessories
The TERRIER is fitted with a front mounted hydraulically operated multi purpose high capacity bucket that can be used to clear obstacles, prepare vehicle and weapon pits and grip large items. A ripper can be fitted to break up road surfaces. Mounted on the right side is the hydraulically operated excavator arm system which can lift a maximum of 3 tonnes at full reach and is normally fitted with a bucket. For the route clearance and marking roles TERRIER can be rapidly fitted with the Pearson Engineering plough type scatter able mine clearance device which is already in service with a number of countries. The Terrier is fitted with a full environmental control system to enable it to undertake operations all over the world and has provision for remote control operation when operating in a high threat environment. It also has a full range of day and night vision devices to enable it to undertake operations on a 24 hour basis and will also be fitted with the General Dynamics UK Bowman digital communications system. The vehicle will weigh about 30 tonnes, light enough to be air transportable by C-17 Globemaster III or Airbus A400M currently in use by the Royal Air Force.
