Citing information published by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on April 24, 2022, in the Slobozhansky direction, the Russian army increased the grouping of troops by transferring and concentrating additional units in the Belgorod region. Thus, according to available data, 60 km from the state border of Ukraine deployed launchers of ground-to-ground ballistic operational-tactical missile systems 9K720 Iskander (SS-26 Stone).
The missile of the Iskander is designed for mobile, autonomous operation and is capable of striking point and area targets at ranges of 50 – 280 km. The Iskander-M is an improved version of the Iskander using a new missile able to reach a land target at a range from 400 to 500 km. The missile uses both inertial and optical guidance systems to achieve an accuracy of 10-30 m CEP (Circular Error of Probability). It can carry conventional and nuclear warheads up to 700 kg and employs a maneuverable re-entry vehicle (MaRV) and decoys to defeat theater missile defense systems. It can also use conventional warheads that can be equipped by the Iskander including cluster warheads, fuel-air explosives, bunker-busters, and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) warheads.
