The Vilkha is a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) that was developed in Ukraine by the State Kyiv Design Bureau “Luch” in collaboration with other public and private Ukrainian defense companies. The rocket launcher has conducted its first firing test in 2018.

The Ukrainian Vilkha is based on the Soviet-made BM-30 Smerch 300mm MLRS using the same 8x8 truck chassis MZKT MAZ-543 as well as the same launcher station. The 300 mm rocket tube arrangement is two separate banks of four with a connecting roof of the remaining four tubes overlying the inner tubes of the banks.

The Vilkha is operated by a crew of four. The driver's cab is located on the front left side of the truck with the launch cabin positioned behind the driver’s cab.

Citing information from the Ukrainian defense industry, the rocket used by the Vilkha is able to reach a range of up to 300 km. It can fire 12 missiles in 45 seconds and engage the targets with a circular error probability (CEP) of less than 30 m.

The Vilkha is equipped with a new automated fire-control system, which can be operated in either auto or manual modes. The fire control system enables autonomous determination of an azimuth of the launch tube.
