Russian forces strike Ukrainian cities with missiles to destroy power stations


According to information released by the Ukrainian Army Press Services on November 25, 2022, Russia launched a deadly wave of missile strikes on energy infrastructure on Nov 23rd, 2022, causing power outages not only across Ukraine but also in Moldova. The attack came shortly after the European Parliament recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. Following the strike, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Kuleba called on the rest of the world to follow the EU's example and label Russia as a terrorist state.

According to Ukraine's Air Force, the Russian attack killed at least three people. It also caused emergency power outages and halted water supply in multiple cities. 70% of Kyiv remains without a power supply. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said utility service employees "worked all night to restore the life support of the capital." According to the mayor, the water supply has already been restored on the left bank of the city following Russia's deadly missile strike.

General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: "Yesterday, the Russians hit residential buildings and energy infrastructure in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Lviv, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions. The occupying forces fired 67 cruise missiles and up to 10 Lancet attack UAVs. 51 missiles and 5 specified drones were shot down by the Defense Forces of Ukraine".

In Moldova, there was a power outage due to a frequency jump in the network shared with Ukraine — because of it, Moldova lost the opportunity to receive energy from the European power grid, Ukrenergo explained and reminded that Ukraine had not exported energy since October 11. The incident made the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova summon the Russian ambassador, and President Sandu once again expressed support for Ukraine.

All three of Ukraine's nuclear power plants were cut off from power and disconnected from country's power grid for the first time due to a massive shelling on Nov 23rd in Ukraine; ZNPP was in a blackout.
