Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Poland is one of the largest contributors in Europe of military aid to Ukraine, indeed, the Polish government has already donated to Ukraine more than 230 T-72M and T-72M1R to Ukraine as well as 14 German-made Leopard 2A4 tanks coming from its military inventory.

The PT-91 Twardy is a Polish main battle tank, which was developed in the 1990s by the Polish defense company OBRUM (OBRUM stands for Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Urządzeń Mechanicznych - Mechanical Devices Research and Development Centre). It is an upgraded version of the Soviet T-72 tank, which was used by the Polish Army during the Cold War.

The PT-91 Twardy features improved armor protection, a more powerful engine, and a modernized fire control system compared to the original T-72 tank. It is armed with a 125mm smoothbore gun, which can fire a variety of ammunition types including high explosive, armor-piercing, and guided missiles.

The tank has a crew of three, including a commander, a gunner, and a driver. The PT-91 Twardy has been exported to several countries, including Malaysia, which has the largest fleet of these tanks outside of Poland.

The PT-91 Twardy has a more advanced composite armor that provides better protection against anti-tank weapons compared to the T-72M. It has a modern fire control system, including a thermal imaging sight and a laser rangefinder, that provides better accuracy and targeting capabilities compared to the T-72M.

The PT-91 Twardy has a more powerful engine and a better power-to-weight ratio compared to the T-72, which provides it with better mobility and speed. The Twardy is powered by a 12-cylinder diesel engine that produces 838 kW (1,120 hp), while the T-72 is powered by a V-12 diesel engine that produces 780 kW (1,050 hp).

Overall, the Polish PT-91 Twardy is a more advanced and capable tank compared to the T-72M, with improved armor protection, better firepower, and enhanced mobility. However, the effectiveness of a tank in combat depends on many factors, including terrain, tactics, and the skill and training of the crew.
