Design | Skyguard is trailer-mounted and fully air-conditioned with the cabin being fire-resistant reinforced glass fibre polyester. Mounted on the roof, there is a pulse doppler search radar, a pulse doppler tracking radar and a co-axial television camera. The trailer also houses the crew of two and a small petrol generator. | Radar and command systems | The antenna head, containing the search radar, tracking radar and TV camera, fold away within the cabin while travelling and, when required, is erected under full power control. When deployed in the operational position, Skyguard is supported on four outriggers that have fine levelling. The pulse Doppler search radar has a maximum range of 20 km and key features include high detection probability against low-flying air threats, high information rate, fine resolution cell, high clutter suppression, automatic target alarm, automated acquisition procedure for tracking radar, high resistance to ECM, elaborate video presentation and optional IFF according to customer requirements. The pulse Doppler tracking radar is mounted below the search radar and features monopulse evaluation, fine resolution, accurate tracking, automated target exchange under computer control, air-to-surface missile detection and alarm, resistance to ECM and a second tracking system when tracking missiles. The TV tracking system is mounted to the right of the tracking radar and allows high-precision target tracking using a video processor, computer-aided tracking using joystick Vidicon (with or without light intensifier) or SEC-Vidicon camera. | Combat use | The Skyguard control console can be operated by one or two crew and has a PPI (Plan Position Indicator ) that displays Doppler and `raw' video as well as symbols and markers for the presentation of the tactical situation. Scope is provided to check target tracking and to judge the ECM (Electronic CounterMeasure) situation. There is also a tactical display with numerical readout, monitoring of the TV tracking system, roller ball to control markers, joystick for the manual control of the tracker, matrix panel for data input and output and an intercommunications system. Information from the Skyguard fire-control system is sent to the weapons via standard two-wire field telephone connection. | | Specifications | Back to top | Type | Fire control radar | Country users | Argentina, Austria, Canada, Greece, Iran, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates | Designer Country | Switzerland. | Crew | 2 | | Power supply | Petrol generator | Mobility | The system is mounted to a 4 wheels trailer. a a | Radar systems | Search and tracking radar | Range radar | 20 km | | | | |
