The King is the Commander-in-Chief of the Spanish Armed Forces. The Prime Minister directs the defense policy. The Minister of Defense executes and carries out the defense policy. The Minister of Defense includes the following elements, the armed forces, the General Staff, The Defense Secretary of States Support and the Chiefs of General Staff. The total active manpower of the Spanish Army is around 170,000 soldiers. There is also a Para-military force with, 85,000 Guardia Civil. The personnel of the Spanish Land Forces are composed by 75,000 soldiers.
