The Chinese defense industry meets a new need of world armed forces by introducing on the market a new wheeled self-propelled howitzer, which can be easily transported by air and deployed on the new theaters of operation.

Most of the main European defence companies have launched several years ago similar projects such as the French Caesar Nexter or the Swedish Archer that have convinced many armed forces, but remain expensive products for Asia, Africa and Middle East countries.

The presence of a real SH2 vehicle at the defense exhibition SMES 2011, show the perseverance of the Chinese defense industry to convince the Middle East countries to buy and use its new types of wheeled self-propelled howitzer.

The SH2 is based on a 6 × 6 light truck cross country chassis, with a 122mm or 105mm standard howitzer mounted at the rear side. The SH2 has a maximum firing range of 22km when using the Chinese NORINCO Extended-Range, Full-Bore, Hollow-Base (ERFB-HB) round, or 27km when using the Chinese NORINCO Extended-Range, Full-Bore, Rocket-Assisted (ERFB-RA) round.

The SH2 presented at SMES 2011 exhibition is armed with a Russian made 122mm howitzer D-30.
